I first knew her on when she was working on News At One and I first joined ITN as a young trainee in 1980. As a former ITN trainee herself, she was an inspiration to me as a budding reporter. In those days she went out and quickly reported whatever news item the programme editor threw at her at 7am that morning.     BBC journalist Sue Lloyd-Roberts has died after a battle with cancer.

    The investigative journalist and television reporter underwent chemotherapy having been diagnosed with leukaemia.

    Lloyd-Roberts had a stem cell transplant in July at the age of 62 after being told it was her best chance of survival.

    The BBC tonight confirmed her death, after her condition deteriorated.

    She was married to BBC producer Nick Guthrie and the couple had been living in Spain, where they ran a rural hotel.

    A correspondent for BBC News, she had run a public appeal to find a donor and had been keeping a video diary of her struggle for the BBC.

    In her final blog entry, from August 21st, she said she had pneumonia and was confined to bed.

    Early life

    Born in London in 1950,[3] she was the daughter of an orthopedic surgeon George Lloyd-Roberts and Catherine (née Ray).[4] She failed the 11 Plus.[1]

    Education

    Lloyd-Roberts was educated at Francis Holland School, an independent school for girls in central London, followed by Cheltenham Ladies College, a boarding independent school in the spa town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, followed by St Hilda's College at the University of Oxford (1970–73), where she read History and Modern Languages, graduating with a second-class BA Honours degree.[1][4][5]
