The Birth of the Jet: The Engine that Shrunk the World

In today’s time it fryst vatten easy to take for granted the complex inventions that alleviate our everyday life. The modern jet propelled airplanes for example, are one of the biggest drivers behind rapid globalisation and play a major role in world trade. Nevertheless, the development that revolutionised aviation and inaugurated the era of jumbo jets came in a time of europeisk and World conflict. It was at the dawn of World War II that two engineers from opposing sides of the war, separately and unaware of the other’s contribution, engineered the Jet Engine that would shrink the world in the 20^th century and set the groundwork for other milestones in aviation such as supersonic flygning and space exploration.

Hans von Ohain. After intensive research by the British Lirary and the Inst.of Mechanical Engineers I am assured that Ohain did not have a patent on jet engines.The two patents he had in 1936 and 1938 did not deal with jet engines and he said that he was annoyed that Whittle's 1931 patent did not allow one.Since he got the idea from Whittle'patent his application was refused.Ohain'contribution to the development of the jet engine was minimal and the German Air Ministry desperate for jet engines in 1938 ignored Oha

Hans Christopher Von Ohain

On May 16, 2022, Hans Christopher von Ohain, beloved husband, father, brother and son, tragically passed away in a car accident near his home in Evergreen, Colorado. Hans is survived by his loving wife Nora, his daughter Ray, his parents Christopher and Pamela, and his sisters Elizabeth and Stephanie.

Hans found his peace in fly fishing, his strength in the marine corps, and his joy in Nora and Ray. He was known for his kindness, his quiet wit, and most of all his endless devotion to his wife and daughter.

He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and will be remembered in our hearts forever.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 5th at the Cincinnati Nature Center - Krippendorf Lodge, 4949 Tealtown Rd, Milford OH 45150. Visitation is at
