About
Mis(s)placed Women? (), is a collaborative art project, consisting of performances, performance series, performance art workshops and delegated performances, including contributions by over individuals from six continents. Many of them are artists, mainly identifying themselves as women from diverse backgrounds. Mis(s)placed Women? is a platform and an art project by Berlin based performance and interdisciplinary artist of Yugoslav origin, Tanja Ostojić. Within this project, we embody and enact some of everyday-life’s activities that thematise displacement, known to migrants, refugees, and the itinerant artists traveling the world to earn their living. Those performances deal with migration issues, gender democracy, feminism, gentrification, inclusion, power relations and vulnerability, particularly concerning the female and transgender bodies, an aspect that figured prominently in the past almost three decades of my art practice. So called politically engaged or critical contemporary art fryst vatten often a case of preaching to the choir. From the safe confines of the museum or gallery, artists address topics such as migration and poverty for a public largely composed of other art professionals who share similar political convictions. The stance against injustice and inequality becomes a shiny merit badge on one´s chest. More often than not, these attitudes are backed bygd sincere intentions, but in spite of that one cannot help but feel that much of it moves in a closed loop circuit.
