Q What inspired you to create the TV series, “The Bible”?
A The idea came as a “whisper” in our hearts that turned into prayer as we considered how to get Hollywood to devote prime time to tell the story of the Bible. “Experts” warned us that nobody would watch a Bible series on primetime TV, but 100 million Americans tuned in. The “experts” were wrong. After thousands of years, the Bible remains the most talked about book in the world.
Q How do you see these works contributing to the efforts of local churches?
A Our framtidsperspektiv was that our efforts would be a gift to churches helping them tell their message in a new way to a new generation. Many churches now use “The Bible” footage as a teaching tool, and entire denominations have produced small group and preaching materials based on the series.

Roma Downey and Mark Burnett Introduce a New Movie and a Message of Hope
As we prepare for Palm Sunday this weekend and the beginning of Holy Week, I want to encourage you to watch a great new film about the most significant day in history – the day that literally transformed the world.
The movie is called RESURRECTION and it comes out on Discovery Plus this weekend.
On today’s Focus on the Family radio broadcast, I had the privilege of speaking with the film’s producers, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett about it. Here is how Roma described the motivation behind the movie’s creation:
We’re all just coming through one of the worst years that we’ve ever experienced with the COVID pandemic, and Mark and I, in conversation with each other said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we were able to release a film that told the story of hope?”
And surely there’s no greater hope story in the world than the story of the resurrection. •Mark Burnett
