    She graduated High School at Warren Central in Indianapolis, Indiana. Attended Indiana University, & also IUPUI Indiana University Purdue University Institute in Indianapolis. Plus many hours of human relations training and drug & alcohol training.

    Working in the government of the City of Indianapolis, her last position was as secretary to the Board of Public Safety where in the capacity she was also privileged to be working closely with the Mayor of Indianapolis. Acting at times as the Mayoral Assistant. During her service to the City of Indianapolis, Thunder served as a liaison with the Human Rights Board per native issues, & was awarded 7 Keys to the City, & 2 Governor State Awards for her work for the people.   • Unci Reverend Mary Elizabeth Thunder was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the parents of Richard Farr Crickmore and Gladys Mae Brannon. She was beautiful, brilliant and amazing as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mary graduated with honors from Indiana University majoring in Psychology. In Indianapolis she served as secretary to Mayor Richard Lugar and on the Board of Public Safety. In addition, she served as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at the Dallas Intertribal Center.

     

    Thunder was active in several Native American movements including, the Longest Walk, the Long Walk for Survival, and Yellow Thunder. Thunder was proud to be a nominee for the Nobel Prize among Women of Peace. She was named Peace Elder by Grandmother Twylah Nitsch. She is a member of many delegations including: the UN Indigenous Peoples Working Sessions, the Spiritual United Nations and the Spiritual Concerns for Women Committee.

    In , Thunder suffered a heart attack and had a near-death experience. The impact of that experience turned her life around. She moved to Dallas and worked as a drug and alcohol expert for the Inter-Tribal Center. A year later, she decided to listen to the words of her Teachers and Elders who told her it was time to leave the Inter-Tribal Center to begin her Sun Dance.

    In , she began her life on the road.  Thunder started Sun Dancing, living in a van while traveling, and shared her experiences and Traditional teachings to help the people.

    In , her Dream and framtidsperspektiv for a place to start a Spiritual University manifested. It would become the foundation and grounding of her life's work. Thunder Ranch, in West Point, Texas, birthed into life and has been home base for the Blue Star Church and its many members, ever since.
