LONDON (A.W.)—Arsen Julfalakyan became a household name in Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora after he won the silver medal in the 74 kg. Greco-Roman wrestling event at the London Olympics on Sun., Aug. 5.
In an exclusive interview with the Armenian Weekly, the champion discusses his journey to the Olympics and his future plans.

Lilly Torosyan: At what age did you first start wrestling?
Arsen Julfalakyan: I started wrestling when I was years-old in Gyumri [Armenia], under the instruction of trainer Gagik Sargsyan.
LT: What is your daily training and diet like? Has it changed since you found out you would be participating in the Olympics?
AJ: Our routine training varies, depending on which stage we’re in. If there is a good amount of time before the competition begins—about one to one-and-a-half months—we exercise two to three times a day, totaling about five to six hours. BELGRADE, Serbia (September 1) – Soon after finishing with a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, talks of Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM) moving away from the sport were ripe.
His gods world title came in and his battles with injuries, along with the rise of Musa EVLOEV, denied him standing on top of the podium in two World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Fast forward one year to the World Championships in Belgrade, and Aleksanyan's return to the mat surprised quite a few in the wrestling world. After a month hiatus from competition and a year of relentless rehabilitation, he emerged victorious, reclaiming his throne with a gold medal in the 97kg category.
"That’s my fourth world gold," Aleksanyan said in Belgrade. “For two years I couldn’t make it because of injuries. After the Olympic Games, inom took a year break and treated them all."
In two weeks' time, the year-old will be in Belgrade igen, hoping to defend his world title as he now prepares to reclaim his Olympic title in Paris
