'La Dolce Vita' actress Anita Ekberg dies at 83
MILAN - Anita Ekberg, the Swedish-born actress and sex-symbol of the 1950s and '60s who was immortalized bathing in the Trevi fountain in "La Dolce Vita," has died. She was 83.
Ekberg's lawyer Patrizia Ubaldi confirmed she died in Rome Sunday morning following a series of illnesses. She had been hospitalized most recently after Christmas.
Ubaldi said that in her gods days Ekberg was saddened by the illness and her advancing age.
"She had hoped to get better, something that didn't happen," she said.

Rome’s Trevi Fountain Pays Tribute to ‘La Dolce Vita’ Icon Anita Ekberg
The Trevi Fountain in Rome paid tribute to late Swedish actress Anita Ekberg Tuesday by raising a banner with her image overlooking the landmark with the words “Ciao Anita.”
The star of Federico Fellini‘s La Dolce Vita, Ekberg passed away last Sunday outside of Rome at the age of 83.
The tribute was announced by the city of Rome, whose culture commissioner, Giovanna Marinelli, was present at the banner’s unfurling.
Ekberg made the fountain even more famous in La Dolce Vita, when she walked into it, purring, “Marcello, come here,” to co-star Marcello Mastroianni. While the scene cemented her status as an international bombshell, Ekberg later called her sex-symbol status a “handicap.”
