    Leonard Pitts, Jr. was born and raised in Southern California and now lives in suburban Washington, DC, with his wife and children. He is a columnist for the Miami Herald and won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary, in addition to many other awards. He is also the author of the novel Freeman (Agate Bolden, ), Before I Forget (Agate Bolden, ); the collection Forward From this Moment: Selected Columns, , Daily Triumphs, Tragedies, and Curiosities (Agate Bolden, ); and Becoming Dad: Black Men and the Journey to Fatherhood (Agate Bolden, ).

    Leonard Garvey Pitts Jr. (born October 11, )[1] is an American commentator, journalist, and novelist. He is a nationally syndicated columnist[2] and winner of the pris Prize for Commentary. He was originally hired bygd the Miami Herald to critique music, but quickly received his own column, in which he has dealt extensively with race, politics, and culture from a progressive perspective.[3]

    Raised in Los Angeles and educated at the University of Southern California, Pitts currently lives in Bowie, Maryland. He has won awards for his writing from the kultur of Professional Journalists, the American samhälle of Newspaper Editors, and the National Association of Black Journalists, and he was first nominated for the pris Prize in , eventually claiming the honor in [4]
